8.2 Was Running, Had Power Outage, Now Won’t Boot, Was Booting from UNIX

Host.

A CSMIM2 was running before a power outage occurred, and now it will not boot from the UNIX host. Check that the boot

host is running.

Is the boot host running?

Try to start boot host.

Did the host boot without errors?

You may have to correct disc errors and/or recover files from the backup tapes. Correct as needed and try to restart

the boot host.

Did the host boot?

Contact the host vendor for technical support.

Check to see if the erpcd is running.

Check the Services file to see if there is a line for socket 121. Refer to the software installation notes for the CSMIM2.

Check the startup script and add code if needed. Refer to release notes for codes. Try to boot the host again.

Did the host boot?

Load CSMIM2 software on another host. Boot from the new host.

Try to ping the CSMIM2.

Can the host ping the CSMIM2?

Can the host ping anything?

This is a host problem. Check the network connection. Check that the network software is running

(rup or netstar -r). If not, contact the host vendor for technical support or check your UNIX Man pages.

Check to see if there are routers in the network.

Are there routers in the network?

Call Cabletron Technical Support.

Are all routers passing traffic?

From the UNIX host, ping other units on the same subnet as the CSMIM2.

Can you ping units on the same subnet?

This is a router problem. Refer to Chapter 5 for common router problems/solutions.

Reset the CSMIM2. The

monitor: prompt is displayed. Enter boot -v at the monitor: prompt.

Did the CSMIM2 boot successfully?

At the

monitor: prompt, enter the addr -d command. A list of addresses and other information is displayed.

Check the load host IP address, CSMIM2 IP address, and the subnet mask to ensure that they are correct. If there is a

router hop, check that the gateway address is correct.
