HSIM-W84 Installation Guide 3-1

Installation

This chapter outlines the procedure for attaching the HSIM-W84 to the network. To install the

HSIM-W84 you need the following items:

• Antistatic wrist strap (provided with the HSIM-W84)

• Phillips screwdriver

Unpacking the HSIM-W84

Unpack the HSIM-W84 as follows:

1. Remove the shipping material covering the HSIM-W84 in the shipping box.

2. Carefully remove the HSIM-W84 from the shipping box. Leave the module in its

non-conductive bag until you are ready to install it.

3. Attach the antistatic wrist strap (refer to the instructions on the antistatic wrist strap package).

4. After removing the module from its non-conductive bag, visually inspect the device. If there

are any signs of damage, contact Cabletron Systems (refer to Chapter 1, Getting Help)

immediately.

Guidelines for Installations

Installation sites must be within reach of the network cabling and meet the requirements listed

below:

• A properly grounded power receptacle must be within seven feet of the location.

Only qualiﬁed personnel should perform installation procedures.
